2. Ye Olde Mill

Granville holds incredible historic charm, and one staple of the community is found at Ye Olde

Mill. Once one of the largest grist mills in the Northwest Territory, and built in 1817, this mill

was restored and transformed into the Velvet Ice Cream Company.

Those visiting can explore the Museum of Milling and History of Ice Cream Museum, as well as

the old-fashioned ice cream parlor, restaurant, gift shop, pond and picnic area.

3. Historic Landmarks

Speaking about Granville’s rich history, its home to many recognizable landmarks. Denison

University, for example, is located in the community. Granville is home to Denison University,

which was founded in 1831, making it one of the oldest colleges in the Northwest Territory.

Another notable landmark is found at the Avery-Downer House and Robbins Hunter Museum,

which according to their website, “is a historic house museum furnished with 18th and 19th

century decorative arts acquired by the original owners, as well as collectors tied to the house

over its long history. It was completed in 1842, with additions in 1875, 1930, and finally during

Robbins Hunter's occupancy from 1956 to 1979.”
